Vin Rouge is an authentic French Bistro in Durham that evokes a quaint village in the South of France. The kitchen works in the classic vocabulary of French bistro cooking, fresh seafood and fruits de mer, with a farm-to-table approach to sourcing.
For private events, the restaurant offers two private dining rooms alongside its garden and patio, and can be booked in full as a buyout: exclusive use of all its facilities, two to three bars, and a dedicated chef and service team.
The Dining Rooms
The Red Room seats up to 20 and recalls a classic era, with large windows looking onto the garden and patio; drinks here are served table-side. The Yellow Room holds up to 50 without a bar or 45 with one, and brings in natural light through French doors that open onto the garden; the Yellow Room and Garden combine for cocktails and dinner in one flow.
The Garden and Patio
The garden seats up to 74 with a private bar and is hung with lights and plants, its antique windows and covered pergola kept usable through the year with fans and overhead heaters. The adjoining patio, which the restaurant books only together with the garden, holds up to 25 and takes its character from the same antique windows and potted plants, styled after a Parisian cafe. Within the garden, Demi Jardin Un seats up to 22, and Demi Jardin Un et Deux together seat up to 40.
What We Design Here
The garden's own decor sets the outdoor scheme: hanging lights, planting, antique windows, and a covered pergola that keeps the space in use through the year. Our work here settles into that mix, low at each table, so the planting and the string lights stay the backdrop.
Indoors, the Red Room and Yellow Room ask for something quieter: low, compact work in textures that sit easily beside the photography on the walls. Indoors we lean into deeper, wine-toned color, and out in the garden it softens, so the two settings flow together as one event.
