TRAINE at Seaboard Station

Location: 121 Seaboard Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27604 Capacity: Up to 270 guests (reception); 175 seated Type: Historic Event Space Website: traineatseaboardstation.com

TRAINE at Seaboard Station occupies a historic Seaboard Railroad Station building in downtown Raleigh's Seaboard Station district, one of the last landmark historic buildings there. The building went up in 1941 as the station's conductor's office and loading dock.

The original brick walls date to the 1940s. Exposed timber beams run overhead, with bistro lighting built into the room, and the space is a single story, fully accessible.

The Main Floor

The main floor is 4,500 square feet of open floor plan, one room that shifts from a seated dinner and ceremony layout to a cocktail-style reception depending on how tables and chairs are arranged. Three garage doors open onto a 55-foot private outdoor deck, so the room and the deck work as one continuous space. Ivory chiffon draping runs along the timber beams, with market lights hung throughout.

The Bridal Suite and Speakeasy

The bridal suite holds up to 25 guests and has a private entrance, a private bathroom, and a glass garage door that brings in natural light. Suite access begins in the morning on the day of the event. A speakeasy sits at the back of the building; suite and speakeasy together run 800 square feet.

What We Design Here

The main floor's original brick and exposed timber make a warm background that holds color well. Deep, saturated tones and warm neutrals look rich against the brick and under the market lights.

Because the main floor opens directly onto the deck through the garage doors, arrangements placed at that threshold, or a run of low pieces along the deck rail, carry the eye from indoor to outdoor and give the two spaces one visual line. Scale can run large under the height and openness of the main floor, while low, dense pieces suit the cocktail tables where guests stand and move through the evening.

Practical

Public parking is available adjacent to the venue. The venue has a prep kitchen for caterers and offers in-house bar service with bartenders. Area lodging is worth confirming with the venue when you book.
