The Skyroom went up from bare ground on 10 acres outside Pittsboro, in Moncure, built from scratch as a wedding venue. The main interior runs 7,000 square feet, with a 1,000-square-foot terrace attached to it, so a couple can move a ceremony, a cocktail hour, and a reception across more than one setting without leaving the property.
The finishes are neutral throughout, with garden views standing in for the fixed backdrop other rooms need.
The Skyroom is family-run.
The Venue
7,000 square feet of open interior, plus the attached terrace, give a room that seats up to 250 guests. Round and rectangular tables come with the rental, along with upgraded ceremony and reception chairs for the full guest count. A second, satellite bar comes online for parties past 150 guests, so drinks keep flowing during a full reception. 6 uplights, set to a couple's chosen color, are part of the standard rental, along with patio umbrellas for shade and heaters from October through April for guests who want the terrace air even in a Carolina winter.
The Amenities
2 dressing suites give the wedding party separate space to get ready, reached through a private entrance. An indoor lounge gives guests a quieter spot to sit between dances, and the built-in bar runs from the interior out to the terrace, so cocktail hour can spill from the room onto the terrace. A venue director stays on-site for the length of the event, and deep cleaning afterward is included in the rental.
What We Design Here
The Skyroom's neutral interior tones make a clean frame for color, so we lean toward strong, saturated work here. The scale of the main room rewards height: tall pieces at the reception tables and structural work at the ceremony point read clearly across 7,000 square feet. On the terrace, we work lower and looser, since the garden views around it are already doing some of the work a heavier arrangement would do indoors. Warm, late-day color suits the open sky over the property, and we plan around the hour a couple's own ceremony falls.
Practical
The Skyroom is in Moncure, close to Pittsboro. The venue points guests to nearby hotel options in Pittsboro's Chatham Park and in Southern Village near the UNC campus, with more hotels available in Apex and Cary. The venue notes that rideshare service reaches the property. The standard rental is a 13-hour block plus 1 hour for rehearsal, running 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the events team is reachable through theskyroomnc.com for pricing, open dates, and tours by appointment. In Pittsboro itself, Forest Hall at Chatham Mills fills a corner of a label mill built in the early 1900s.
