Location: 200 Beulah Hill Road South, Pinehurst, NC 28374 Capacity: Up to 500 guests (banquet); 800 standing Type: Historic Barn / Event Hall Website: vopnc.org/our-government/departments/fair-barn
In 1917, an exhibition hall was built for the Sandhills Fair, within the Pinehurst Harness Track, the oldest continuously operating equine sports facility in the state. More than a century later, The Fair Barn is the oldest surviving fair exhibition hall in North Carolina, restored, and managed by the Village of Pinehurst Department of Parks and Recreation. And now it holds weddings.
The Space
The barn's wood roof trusses rise over a large, flexible space, and as evening falls the room transforms into something warmer and more intimate, the trusses overhead bringing the scale back to something human.
The barn accommodates up to five hundred guests at banquet seating, six hundred in rows for a ceremony, and eight hundred standing, a range that gives couples the flexibility to host everything from an intimate dinner to a full-scale celebration. The building is a historic Mission-style barn, originally designed as an exhibition hall for the Sandhills Fair, and the large, flexible space allows freedom in how it is configured, long communal tables, rounds, a ceremony at one end and a reception at the other, or any arrangement that the couple's vision requires.
The Setting
The Fair Barn's location within the Pinehurst Harness Track places the wedding in a context that no purpose-built event center can replicate: a historic exhibition hall within the oldest continuously operating equine sports facility in North Carolina.
The Amenities
A commercial kitchen equipped with refrigerator, freezer, ice machine, double sink, dishwasher, gas range, and stainless steel worktables gives caterers the tools to execute a full menu. Two dressing rooms with full-length mirrors and lighted vanities give the wedding party a place to get ready. A stage of twelve sections and a 24-by-24-foot wood parquet dance floor are available for rent, and there are 135 parking spaces plus 7 accessible spaces, with parking attendants available for hire.
From a Florist's Perspective
The Fair Barn's open room and exposed wooden roof trusses demand floral work with presence, arrangements that engage the vertical space without attempting to fill it, that honor the historic architecture by adding organic warmth to the structural wood and the open proportions. Tall centerpieces in elegant vessels, glass, aged metal, natural wood, are essential to prevent table arrangements from being dwarfed by the room. Greenery cascading from the stage create visual anchors that draw the eye upward and connect the florals to the architecture.
The warmth of the wood rewards palettes in ivory, champagne, blush, sage, dusty rose, burgundy, warm peach, and soft gold, colors that glow against the natural wood tones. For ceremonies beneath the trusses, a dramatic arch or ground-based installation framing the couple gives the vows a backdrop worthy of the room. Dahlias, garden roses, hydrangeas, peonies, ranunculus, lisianthus, and abundant eucalyptus and trailing greenery complement the barn's scale and personality. The Fair Barn is a venue where the flowers should feel as if they understood what it means to fill a room with this much history, generous, confident, and beautiful enough to belong in a building that was beautiful long before the first arrangement arrived.
