Location: 2000 Fearrington Village Center, Pittsboro, NC 27312 Capacity: Up to 250 guests (The Barn) Type: Farm Estate & Inn Website: fearrington.com
Belted Galloway cattle still graze the pastures at Fearrington, a herd of six brought from Virginia in 1982, now more than 30. The original farm buildings, a barn among them, have been restored into the spaces where weddings now happen, so a formal event and a working landscape sit side by side.
The village itself is walkable: an inn, a restaurant, a spa, and a handful of shops cluster around gardens that have been growing for decades, with brick paths connecting one planted room to the next.
The Barn
The Barn is a restored 1927 structure, entered through a cobblestone patio into a climate-controlled room built for 125 to 250 guests. Twig chandeliers hang from the ceiling and hand-hewn wooden columns carry the roofline, and the space comes with dedicated restrooms, on-site furnishings, and layouts a couple can adjust to the size of their guest list.
The Garden Terrace
The Garden Terrace sits beneath oak trees next to the restaurant, holding up to 100 guests. It works as an outdoor room for most of the year: enclosed and heated through the cooler months, open-air when the weather allows, with a wood-burning fireplace that anchors it either way. It suits a ceremony, a cocktail hour, or a full reception.
Smaller Rooms
Three more spaces cover the rest of a wedding weekend. The Cottage at the Fearrington House, tucked along a brick path beneath pecan trees, seats up to 40 guests for a rehearsal dinner or a smaller reception. Inside the restaurant itself, the Magnolia Room holds up to 22 around its own wood-burning fireplace, sized for an intimate dinner the night before or the morning after. The Granary, a reimagined farm structure elsewhere on the property, rounds out the venue's gathering spaces.
The Grounds
The gardens have been part of Fearrington since the restaurant first opened in 1980, and they have grown into more than 60 beds connected by brick pathways and lawns. The cattle graze in full view of the paths a wedding party will walk. The Fearrington House Inn, completed in 1986, has been part of the Relais & Chateaux collection since 1988.
What We Design Here
This is a garden estate first, so we take our lead from what is already growing. Expect soft, layered arrangements with real weight and texture, in ivory and warm neutrals that deepen into leafy green. In the Barn, the twig chandeliers and dark wood columns already fill the height of the room, so we focus on the tables and let the architecture carry the eye upward. On the Garden Terrace, low, dense arrangements sit comfortably by the fireplace and the surrounding plantings, with the oaks overhead as the canopy. In the smaller rooms, a few well-placed, dense arrangements give each table a focal point.
