Sugarneck sits on 400 acres on the Lee County line, and the buildings at its center are the oldest things on it. The cabin at the heart of the property was built in 1874 and expanded in 2015; a former U.S. post office nearby served the surrounding community from 1886 to 1905. Both structures are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the venue's name is said to come from bootleggers along the Cape Fear River, who used it as a code word for a moonshine pickup point.
The property is reserved whole for either a wedding or a glamping stay, or both together for one party, which means the acreage, the oak trees, and the quiet belong entirely to whoever has reserved the date. The road in still follows the old travel route between Fayetteville and Durham.
The Pavilion
The pavilion was built to match the cabin's character and holds the reception: a main gathering room and a second room set up for dancing, four covered porches, and barn doors that open the full width of the building onto the tree line. Oversized chandeliers and draped lighting sit under the lofted ceiling, and with the doors open the room reads as much outdoor as in.
The Cabin and the Post Office
The cabin serves as the bridal suite: a kitchen, a living room with a wet bar, a master bedroom and bath, all finished like a real home. The post office, renovated with pine walls and a covered patio, functions as the groom's space and doubles for rehearsal dinners and cocktail hour, a small room with a long history of being where people gathered to talk.
The Grounds and Glamping
Walking trails cross the property's woods and open fields, and deer, turkey, and a wide range of birds share the land with whoever is staying there. Overnight, the wedding party can stay in European-style glamping tents with private bathrooms, climate control, and a shared fire pit, housing 2 to 20 guests total between the tents and the cabin, so the celebration runs into the next morning on the same ground.
What We Design Here
The pavilion's barn doors turn the reception room into a frame for whatever the tree line is doing that afternoon, so the floral work has to hold its own next to living landscape. We lean into ivory, bone, and warm gold tones that catch the light coming through those open doors, with enough weight and texture to stand out against timber and pine paneling.
In the cabin and the post office, where the rooms are smaller and closer, we scale down: dense, low pieces sized for a room built for conversation. Outdoors, under the oaks or along the tree line, the work has to hold up against wind and full sun for hours, so we build it with sturdier structure and choose elements that stay fresh through a long, sunny afternoon.
Practical
Sugarneck is about 35 minutes from Raleigh, near Sanford. The venue is fully ADA accessible, with parking arranged for the size of the guest list and heated and cooled restrooms at the pavilion. Overnight lodging is on-site through the glamping tents and the cabin. The venue handles dates and package details directly.
