Donovan Manor is a 15-acre private estate about 10 miles from downtown Raleigh, outside Fuquay-Varina. Jill Donovan, who also runs the catering company Donovan's Dish, bought the land and restored the main house and grounds into a full-service wedding venue, with her own kitchen providing the food for every event held there.
The property has the relaxed feel of a working farm. A railroad trestle stands at the back of the property, a large oak tree stands behind the house, and the main house itself, a two-story house with a two-story porch, anchors the approach from the road. The grounds were laid out so a couple can move a wedding day from the house to a garden ceremony to a reception hall without leaving the property or repeating a backdrop.
Donovan Manor sizes itself for a range of weddings. Its catering team builds menus for parties from 20 to 500, and its combined indoor reception spaces seat up to 450. The venue notes that most weddings held there run 300 guests or fewer.
The Manor and the Infinity Garden
The main house is set aside entirely for the wedding party: two separate suites, one on each side of the house, give both sides a private place to dress and wait out the morning without crossing paths. Its two-story porch and the house's own proportions set the tone for the grounds beyond it.
The ceremony garden holds more than 125 flowering shrubs set in structured beds, with trellises framing the point where a couple stands to exchange vows and an evergreen backdrop that holds its shape past bloom season. Beyond the garden, the trestle bridge and the old oak tree give a ceremony or a portrait session two more settings on the same 15 acres.
Feore Hall: the Grand Ballroom and the Trestle Lounge
Feore Hall holds Donovan Manor's two indoor reception rooms under one roof. The Grand Ballroom is the larger of the two, built around a 26-foot wall of glass that looks out over the garden, with stacking glass doors that open the room onto the terrace and a bar that serves both the interior and the outdoor side. The Trestle Lounge sits next to it, a smaller room with large windows facing the bridge and the oak tree, suited to a cocktail hour, an indoor ceremony, or a second reception room running at a different pace than the ballroom next door.
The Courtyard and Meadowview Terrace
The Courtyard sits between the main house and Feore Hall: 5,000 square feet of brick paving with its own bar and a view across the wetlands to the trestle bridge, built to hold a cocktail hour on the walk from ceremony to reception. The Meadowview Terrace extends off the Grand Ballroom through the same stacking glass doors, its brick laid in a herringbone pattern with a bar of its own working the line between indoors and out.
Practical
Donovan Manor is in Fuquay-Varina, about 10 miles from downtown Raleigh. The venue provides 90 paved parking spaces with additional overflow parking on site; vehicles must be moved by the end of the event or by 10 a.m. the next morning if overnight parking is arranged. Catering is exclusive to Donovan's Dish, the venue's in-house kitchen, though outside licensed bakers are permitted for cakes and desserts. A wedding planner or coordinator from the venue's required planner list is required for every event. Florals must come from Donovan Manor's required vendor list; outside flowers and plants are not permitted on the property.
