Dix Park is the City of Raleigh's own park, 308 acres the city acquired from the state in 2015. In 2017 the city and the Dix Park Conservancy began the master planning process that the city council adopted in 2019, and the park has been building out under it since. The wedding venue inside it is the Chapel, a mid-century building from 1955 that the Dix Park Conservancy renovated in 2020, keeping the original stained glass, the terrazzo floors, and a silver-leaf mural.
Weddings here are booked through the City of Raleigh's own rental staff. The Chapel's Main Hall holds up to 200 guests seated at tables, 400 seated without them, or 450 standing. Rates differ for Raleigh residents and for weekday versus weekend dates. Outside the Chapel sits an Event Lawn, 3,200 square feet that can be reserved on its own or alongside the building, with room for a tent as large as 40 by 40 feet.
The Chapel
This is a small, formal room built with intention: a circular stained-glass window, terrazzo underfoot, a mural in silver leaf, and an interior balcony that looks down over the hall. The Main Hall comes with 20 round tables, 15 rectangular tables, 10 cocktail tables, and 164 chairs already on hand, along with a sound system, a projector with an automatic screen, and two wireless and two wired microphones. A staging kitchen supports outside catering, and two dressing areas are available on weekend rentals.
The Event Lawn and Healing Garden
The Event Lawn is a rectangle of grass at the Chapel's front, large enough for a substantial tent and built with its own power and Wi-Fi so a reception can run outdoors without depending on the building. It can be booked with the Chapel or by itself. Beside it is the Healing Garden, a planted space that gives a ceremony an outdoor setting right on the Chapel grounds.
What We Design Here
The building's clean mid-century lines suit structured, architectural pieces at the altar and on the tables, in a palette that picks up the terrazzo and the warm glow of the stained glass. Outdoors on the lawn and in the garden, the same palette can loosen and spread, since the grass and the plantings already carry their own texture and the light changes as the afternoon runs into evening. Because the space is used by the public on other days, everything here is built to arrive, stand for the day, and come down clean.
Practical
Dix Park sits in central Raleigh, close enough to downtown that a couple can hold a wedding here and still put guests up in hotels a short drive away. Rentals, pricing, and availability go through the Dix Park rental staff, reachable at 919-996-3255 or DixPark.Rentals@raleighnc.gov, and outdoor events with 250 or more attendees also need to coordinate with the City of Raleigh Special Events Office. A permit is required any time alcohol will be served.
