Circle M City is a built frontier town outside Sanford: a chapel, a saloon, a bank, a jail, a blacksmith shop, a livery stable, a printing press, a costume room, and an opera house, strung along a dirt street under the pines. A wedding here moves through several of these buildings over the course of the day.
Weddings are booked as a two-day stay: Friday for decorating and a rehearsal dinner, Saturday for the ceremony and reception. Couples bring their own caterer, DJ, and photographer, and the venue's own rustic decorations carry the in-between hours.
Comer's Chapel and the Yellow Pine Opera House
Comer's Chapel is one ceremony option. The Yellow Pine Opera House seats up to 25, and a ceremony there has the feel of a stage performance. Couples can also marry outdoors, among the town's buildings and the surrounding trees.
The Livery Stables Barn
The Livery Stables Barn is the reception building: a two-story barn with a first-floor dining area, a balcony above it, and a bar, furnished with round wooden tables and tavern tables with bench seating. A stage wired for sound and a mounted screen anchor one end of the room, and a full kitchen, bathrooms, and a quiet anteroom with a wood-burning stove sit just off it. The barn is decorated with antique farm implements, so the room comes with its rustic character already in place.
The Town
Beyond the ceremony and reception buildings, guests can walk the town itself: the saloon, the jail, the blacksmith shop, the bank, and the museum. For the couple, the street between buildings becomes a run of portrait locations. Guests get to explore the town in the hour between ceremony and reception.
What We Design Here
A town built from unfinished wood and iron hardware suits arrangements with weight and texture: loose, gathered shapes in containers with some age to them, at ease against the weathered board. The palette that holds up here runs warm and a little dusty. Cream, rust, ochre and deep green read clearly against the timber, and pale shades tend to fade into it. The ceremony and reception sit in separate buildings with different light. The chapel's plain, shadowed interior asks for pieces with real presence, and the barn, with its stage lighting and open balcony, gives us a larger room to fill.
Practical
Circle M City is outside Sanford, in Lee County: about an hour's drive from Raleigh and Durham, and about 25 minutes from Southern Pines. The property operates by appointment only, so a visit or booking inquiry should go through the venue directly, and the venue's own site carries current availability.
