Firefly Farm Preserve is 220 acres of nature preserve south of Raleigh, and the wedding venue sits right inside it. Guests arrive through an iron gate, follow the path past the white house the venue calls Aerie House, park, and walk a short way to the ceremony site. The property is large enough that a single wedding can use several distinct landscapes in one evening without repeating itself.
Five outdoor ceremony sites are in regular use: the Lawn of Aerie House, the Wooded Chapel, the Valley, the Grove, and the Meadows, along with indoor options for weather. Cocktails follow at the Cantina, the property's indoor and outdoor bar, before guests move on to Heron Hall for dinner and dancing.
Heron Hall
Heron Hall is the reception building, and its defining feature is how easily it opens up. Roll-up doors let the green roof bar, planted with live plants, serve inside and out, and a stained glass window door leads to the outside lounge. Reception tables are live edge wood, and a set of antique tables is kept aside for gifts, desserts, favors, or the sweetheart table. A private suite for the couple is part of the hall.
The Houses
Two retreats let the wedding party stay on the property overnight. Aerie House sleeps 8, with a primary bedroom and spa tub, outdoor cast iron claw tubs with hot water, a fully equipped kitchen, and a sunlit dressing suite with vintage vanities and ample mirror space. The Roost Retreat sleeps 11, with its own dressing suite, a parlor and game room, a front porch with rocking chairs, and a fully equipped kitchen. Both are set up for the hours before the ceremony as much as the night after it.
What We Design Here
Heron Hall's live edge tables and reclaimed stained glass set a material tone before a single arrangement goes down. This is a room of wood, glass and living plants, and centerpieces look best when they share that natural weight. Outdoors, the outdoor ceremony sites vary enough in canopy and openness that the same design will not suit all of them; a piece built for the Wooded Chapel's shade needs a different density and color than one meant to carry on the open Meadows site.
We plan around the property's own transitions: ceremony to cocktails at the Cantina to dinner in Heron Hall each change the light and the backdrop, and a palette chosen to read well in one setting should still hold up in the next. The green roof bar and the roll-up doors mean the reception space is photographed from inside and outside in the same hour, so we design every piece to look right from both sides.
Practical
The property is a short drive south of downtown Raleigh, close enough to area hotels and restaurants for guests who are not staying on-site. Parking is on the grounds. A separate, smaller space on the property, The Covey, holds up to 50 guests for couples planning a more intimate event. Catering is selected from the venue's own approved list. The events team handles booking, availability, and planning details directly.
