North Carolina Museum of Art

Location: 2110 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27607 Capacity: Up to 275 guests (reception); 200 seated Type: Art Museum & Sculpture Park Website: ncartmuseum.org

The North Carolina Museum of Art is two exhibition buildings and a 164-acre campus in West Raleigh, its collection spanning more than 5,000 years of art and culture. For a wedding, the museum rents specific rooms: the halls and courtyard in the evening, the auditorium and lobby during the day.

A reception here happens right among the permanent collection. The galleries stay dressed as galleries. Guests walk past the same works on their way to the bar that they would see on any afternoon visit.

West Building Great Hall

The Great Hall sits inside the West Building, among the museum's permanent collection galleries. The museum calls it its premier event facility. It holds up to 250 guests standing or 150 for a seated dinner with dancing, and is available every evening from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.

East Building Main Hall

The Main Hall occupies the East Building's former Egyptian Gallery, a large open room built to hold big groups. It runs on the same evening schedule as the Great Hall, 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.

North Courtyard

The North Courtyard is the museum's outdoor option: a landscaped sculpture garden with trees and a reflecting pool, holding up to 100 guests standing. It runs on the same evening hours as the indoor halls.

Auditorium and Education Lobby

For daytime events, the museum rents its Auditorium, seating 235 and built for presentations with audiovisual equipment and a stage, alongside the adjoining Education Lobby, which holds 200 standing or 125 seated as a reception area. Both are available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Museum Park

Outside the buildings, the campus is threaded by 4.7 miles of trails past sculpture installed among the fields and gardens. It gives a wedding party room to move between the ceremony and the reception, or to take portraits away from the buildings entirely, in a landscape that keeps changing as the trails wind through it.

Practical

The museum sits in West Raleigh's Blue Ridge Corridor, minutes from downtown Raleigh and RDU Airport. Free visitor parking is in the Blue Ridge lot after entering the museum drive, with overflow parking behind the West Building, and a drop-off point between the East and West buildings. Catering Works provides all catering, and the museum's wedding price includes flowers, linens, and cake through it. The museum's own events staff coordinate the room, audiovisual needs, and vendors for the date.
