The Dorothy and Roy Park Alumni Center sits on the southern shore of Lake Raleigh, on NC State's Centennial Campus. It is the home of the NC State Alumni Association, a 59,000 square foot building the university describes as the realization of a twenty-year dream: a permanent home for graduates that could also serve as a working event space. The university's own building record lists it as home to the Alumni Association's offices as well as its event rooms, so a wedding here shares the building with the association that runs it.
The building hosts reunions, post-game receptions, banquets, conferences, and weddings, and a pair of wolf statues at the entrance is the one detail that reminds a guest which university they are standing on. Past the entrance, marble floors, chandeliers and the lake beyond the windows give the center a world of its own.
The Grand Reception Room
This is the room the building is known for: tall and marbled, lit by chandeliers, with the fireplaces adding warmth once the sun sets over the lake. The sweeping staircases are a natural place to greet arriving guests with flowers.
The room is one part of a 59,000 square foot building, and the scale shows: 28-foot ceilings, Italian marble flooring, a pair of double-curving staircases, and windows that look out over the lake, so the water is part of the room at every hour of the day. The university's own building record describes a full wall of windows facing the lake, which is the detail that keeps a room this large from feeling closed off from the setting outside it. Catering is exclusive to Mitchell Casteel, the center's event planning and catering partner, and the building also houses Lakeside Kitchen, an in-house restaurant serving Southern-leaning food to guests of the center day to day. A couple planning a wedding here works directly with Mitchell Casteel's team on the details.
The Lake
Lake Raleigh feels like a fourth wall of the room. The windows face the water directly, and it changes with the time of day the way a good ceremony site should, flat and pale in the morning, gold in the last hour before evening.
What We Design Here
Marble and crystal call for clean, polished work. We lean toward ivory, warm gold, and deep green here, tones that stay legible under the chandelier light. Height matters more than width under a 28-foot ceiling: tall and structured pieces read from across the room, while low, dense work is better saved for tables where guests sit close. Near the lake side of the room, we keep arrangements light and let the lake view bring the color.
Practical
The center is on Centennial Campus in southwest Raleigh, a short drive from downtown, and guests will want to drive or arrange a shuttle. Catering runs exclusively through Mitchell Casteel. Questions about the center, dates, and the room go to the Alumni Association at 919-515-3375.
