North Ridge is a golf and social club in north Raleigh, founded in 1967, with the George Cobb course opening in April 1968. The club has since grown to 36 holes across nearly 400 acres, and carries private events and weddings alongside its golf calendar. The golf calendar runs through the weekend a wedding is booked on.
The Ballroom is the room most couples book, and it is built for scale: a vaulted ceiling, 14 chandeliers, a stage and dance floor, and a terrace overlooking the driving range. Smaller gatherings, like a rehearsal dinner or a next-morning brunch, have rooms sized just for them.
The Ballroom
Fourteen chandeliers run the length of the vaulted ceiling, and a good seating plan follows the rhythm they set. The stage and dance floor are built into one end of the room, and the terrace over the driving range gives guests fresh air between courses. The terrace can also be tented, extending the reception outdoors. Set with round tables, the Ballroom is the largest single room the club offers for a wedding.
The Ridge and the Smaller Rooms
The Ridge holds up to 70 guests, not counting its attached lounge, and comes with a mahogany bar, a fireplace, a piano, and a covered terrace lit for the evening and looking out over the driving range. Two side rooms can separate from the main seating area, giving a rehearsal dinner its own quieter corner. It suits a farewell brunch just as well, one of the gatherings that bookend a wedding weekend. The Garden Room with Parlor seats up to 50, with a built-in bar and floor-to-ceiling windows along one wall, and the Lakes Room and Oaks Room, each capped at 25, have solid French doors and multiple entrances, and can be combined for a bridesmaids' lunch or a smaller family gathering.
What We Design Here
A room with 14 chandeliers already has its ceiling handled, so our work in the Ballroom stays at table height: centerpieces with enough structure to read clearly under a vaulted ceiling and its fixtures. We lean toward clean lines and a limited palette here, letting the crystal and the architecture carry the height while the tables carry the color.
The Ridge and the Garden Room are close and warm already, so we scale down there and let the fireplace or the windows do more of the work. On the terraces off the Ballroom and the Ridge, we build for what is already in view and let the green of the course frame the work.
Practical
