The JB Duke Hotel sits among the pines of Duke Forest, on Duke University's campus, connected by a covered walkway to the Fuqua School of Business. It is a 198-room, AAA Four Diamond hotel of glass and clean lines, with more than 25,600 square feet of IACC-certified event space under one roof.
That space is anchored by a 5,450-square-foot ballroom that can be divided into five separate rooms, which lets a couple size a ceremony, a reception or both to fit, all under one roof. The guest rooms complete the property, so a wedding weekend can run from arrival to send-off at one address.
The Ballroom
At 5,450 square feet, the ballroom is the hotel's largest single space, and its division into five distinct rooms means it can host a full reception at capacity or divide down to a private dinner that still feels warm and full. The design is contemporary: clean ceiling lines, neutral wall surfaces, and lighting designed for events from the start.
For the smaller gatherings around a wedding weekend, the hotel also has 17 multi-purpose team rooms, two boardrooms, and two tiered classrooms, so a welcome dinner or a next-morning brunch gets a room of its own.
The Guest Rooms
Rooms range from 288 to 1,000 square feet, with oversized windows, a sitting area, and a dedicated desk. The corner king rooms carry two walls of windows, which means a wedding party waking up the morning of the ceremony does so with the tree line in the window.
The Kitchen
Catering runs through the hotel's own culinary team, the same kitchen behind the Lobby Lounge and the Marketplace, its café and bar. The Marketplace's kiosk-style layout suits a casual rehearsal dinner or a morning-after gathering, while the Lobby Lounge fits a quieter welcome reception the night before.
What We Design Here
A room this contemporary asks for a different floral logic than a historic ballroom does. Clean ceilings and neutral walls reward a few tall, architectural moments, with color chosen deliberately to glow against all that glass and gray. Because the ballroom divides into separate rooms, the palette can shift from one to the next, cooler and more restrained for a ceremony, warmer and denser once the room opens for dancing.
With the pines of Duke Forest visible through the glass on one side of the building, we also treat the window line itself as part of the design, keeping arrangements low and carefully placed so the forest stays in every frame. Because the room divides for smaller events too, the same discipline applies at a rehearsal dinner scale: fewer pieces, each chosen with care, so every table stays calm and easy to talk across.
Practical
The hotel sits directly on Duke's campus. Raleigh-Durham International Airport is 20 minutes away, and Research Triangle Park is 10. A complimentary shuttle runs to Duke University Hospital. The hotel's wedding team handles overnight guest accommodations, and the hotel's own event team handles availability and floor plans directly.
