The Birdie Ballroom sits on the grounds of the Neuse Country Club, an 18-hole, semi-private golf course designed by John LaFoy. The ballroom opened in December 2023, built next to the clubhouse as a purpose-made event space, and it looks out over the 9th green.
At 6,000 square feet, the room is large enough to hold a full wedding (ceremony, dinner, and dancing) under one roof, with vaulted ceilings and large windows that keep the golf course visible from inside. The look is modern and full of light, with clean lines and bare walls ready for a couple to dress. It was built for events from the ground up, so the proportions favor a wedding from the start.
The Ballroom
The vaulted ceiling and the run of windows are the room's two defining features. The windows put the course inside the room for as long as there's daylight, and once the sun goes down, the ceiling height keeps the space feeling open and airy. The walls themselves stay quiet, pale and unadorned, so the light and the view do the decorating. It is a space that photographs well from almost any angle in it, since there is little in the architecture competing for attention.
The Overlook
The Overlook is the venue's outdoor space, a veranda with the same view of the 9th green that the ballroom windows frame from inside. The venue lists it alongside the ballroom as wedding space. A dressing suite is listed among the venue's spaces.
What We Design Here
A room with this much daylight and this much green outside the windows asks for a light, restrained hand. We tend to work in soft, warm neutrals here, cream and sand tones with muted greens that pick up the color of the course, so the arrangements feel like part of the view.
The ceiling height gives us room to build tall at the head table or the entry, and the pieces stay in proportion, while the tables themselves do better with lower, wider work that lets the sightlines across the room stay open. On the Overlook, we build smaller and looser, so the arrangements sit comfortably against the open course behind them. Texture matters more than color here: the room is bright and fairly neutral, so structure and weight are what carry the design once the sun starts to set and the light through those windows turns warm.
Because the ballroom's own palette is so restrained, a wedding here tends to take on whatever palette the couple brings in. A cooler, more formal scheme reads as crisp against the pale walls; a warmer, looser one reads as relaxed against the same backdrop. Either direction works, which is less true of rooms with more architectural personality of their own.
