Baucom House sits on 14 acres inside Raleigh, surrounded by more than 2,000 acres of farmland. From the property the view is open meadow, a pond, and and mature trees that keep the horizon soft in every direction.
The families bought the mid-century home in January 2021 and spent the following year renovating it, working to keep its original character while bringing it up to a standard for hosting. The venue has welcomed couples ever since. What they built is a property with three working parts: a house for getting ready, an open meadow for the ceremony, and a tent for the reception.
The House
The house splits into two wings, one for each side of the wedding party. One wing holds a master suite with a king bed, a lounge, a bar area, 3 additional bedrooms, a fireplace room, and a kitchen with floor-to-ceiling windows. The other holds a billiards room with a regulation pool table and a big screen, plus its own lounge with a mini bar. In all, the house has four bedrooms and five bathrooms and sleeps 10 to 12 people on a weekend package. For the day itself, it holds up to 50 guests for cocktail hour or a smaller, house-only wedding.
The Ceremony Meadow
The ceremony site sits between two large willow oaks, with tall grass and native trees framing the space beyond. The venue sets up to 250 chairs here. From the chairs, the view is the meadow, the two oaks and the farmland running out behind them.
The Tent
The reception space is a 40-by-100-foot white tent on a poured concrete pad, strung with market lights and fitted with fans for warm evenings. It seats and serves up to 250 guests. The tent is a blank shell of white canvas and open floor, with the meadow visible past its open sides, so it takes on the character of whatever is set inside it.
What We Design Here
The house asks for something close and warm: low, dense arrangements on wood or brass, work that reads well at eye level in rooms built for lounging. Under the oaks, the canopy sets the scale before we add anything, so the ceremony arrangements should stay low and let the canopy hold the height, with one simple structure where the couple stands and the meadow open behind them.
The tent is the one space that needs building up. Its white canvas and concrete floor are neutral by design, so we give the room weight at table height and along its open sides to hold 250 guests. We vary textures and heights across the tables, choose warm tones that hold their color under the market lights at night, and build structure at the entrances so guests feel they are crossing a threshold.
Practical
Baucom House is in southeast Raleigh, off Old Baucom Road. Guest parking is in a lot at the front of the house, with parking attendants and a golf cart on hand to move people between the lot, the house, and the tent. The house can be booked by the night or as a Friday-to-Sunday weekend package, and the venue keeps a list of nearby hotels and short-term rentals for the rest of the wedding party. Catering must come through a licensed, insured caterer approved by the venue, and any alcohol service requires a licensed, insured bartender. A wedding planner or coordinator is required as well, either from the venue's in-house team or an outside company the venue has approved.
