The Raleigh Marriott City Center is connected directly to the Raleigh Convention Center and set among the restaurants, museums and civic buildings of downtown Raleigh. It is built for scale: a hotel that runs conventions and turns its largest room into a wedding reception, with the infrastructure of both jobs behind it.
That dual purpose shapes what a couple gets. The event floor is organized the way a convention center is organized, one level, several rooms of different sizes, all on one floor. A wedding here can spread across a full day and several rooms, with the ceremony in one, the cocktail hour in another and the reception in the largest, all a short walk apart.
The State Ballroom
The State Ballroom measures 9,248 square feet, 68 feet by 136 feet, with a 16-foot ceiling. It is the largest of the property's 6 event rooms, which together total 15,119 square feet, and it is built to scale up: theater seating to 1,000. Sixteen breakout rooms fill in around it, sized for a rehearsal dinner, a bridesmaids' brunch or a smaller family gathering, so a whole wedding weekend can run inside the building, with a fresh room for each event.
The City Outside
Fayetteville Street is downtown Raleigh's main civic corridor, and the hotel sits right on it. The State Capitol, the convention center and a stretch of restaurants and bars are within a few blocks. Out-of-town guests have somewhere to walk between events, and a rehearsal dinner or morning-after gathering can be a short stroll from their rooms.
The Kitchen
The hotel operates its catering in-house, with a planning team that builds the wedding menu directly with the couple. On-site dining runs through Rye Bar & Southern Kitchen, a Southern-inflected restaurant and bar in the lobby, alongside a Starbucks for the mornings after. The hotel's events team can also coordinate ceremonies that follow a cultural or military order of their own.
What We Design Here
The State Ballroom's proportions set the floor for how large the work has to be before it registers. With a 16-foot ceiling and flat, adjustable lighting, the room shows tall structures and suspended work clearly, and a bold or dark palette stays crisp. The space is neutral, so the flowers carry much of the story of the day. We tend to work in layers here. One strong architectural moment goes at the entrance or over the head table, and quieter, denser arrangements sit at eye level on the tables, where guests spend the evening.
The one-floor layout is also a gift for installation day. Nothing has to travel by elevator between the loading area and the ballroom, which matters when the plan involves large structures built off-site and assembled on arrival.
Practical
The hotel is in the heart of downtown Raleigh, about 14.9 miles from Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Both self-parking and valet parking are available on site. The hotel can hold a block of guest rooms for wedding parties, and its events team handles room layouts, catering and scheduling directly.
