Prestonwood is a club in Cary built around 54 holes of championship golf across three courses. The club opened in 1988 and has served Triangle families since. The clubhouse sits at the center of the property, and two rooms inside it carry the wedding calendar: a large ballroom for the big day and a smaller clubhouse room for the events around it, with a golf course running past both. A couple planning a whole wedding weekend, rehearsal dinner included, gets two rooms on one property.

The Grand Ballroom

The Grand Ballroom opens on a dramatic staircase, with crystal chandeliers and high ceilings overhead. It seats up to 350 guests, which makes it the largest room on the property, and it opens onto a veranda where guests can step outside for part of the evening. The venue markets that veranda for daytime views and for the sky after dark, so the veranda is usable in daylight and after dark. The staircase gives arriving guests a clear point of entry into the room, and the veranda beyond gives the evening a second location without a second address.

The Main Clubhouse

A smaller room with cathedral ceilings and exposed wood beams, seating up to 150. Its windows look out over the golf courses, and the room has a relaxed, residential feel. It suits a rehearsal dinner, a smaller reception, or a wedding of up to 150 guests. Its wood-beamed ceiling gives it a warmer mood than the ballroom, so the two rooms feel like different places under one roof.

What We Design Here

The ballroom asks for height. Chandeliers and a tall ceiling reward centerpieces and arch work that climb, and a neutral room takes color well: warm tones read as rich under evening light, cooler tones stay crisp. The staircase calls for one strong gesture, and the room is generous enough to let that single piece hold its own.

The clubhouse room is a different problem. Its exposed beams suit dense, textured work at table height and along the sightlines. The room looks out onto the golf course, so we let the view lead: loose, natural shapes near the windows, tighter and more architectural pieces near the entrance where the room reads first.

The veranda outside the ballroom is its own design problem again. Guests stand and mingle out here, so low, table-height arrangements suit it best, and the architectural pieces stay inside on the ballroom floor.

Practical

Prestonwood Country Club is on Prestonwood Parkway in Cary. The club's events team can be reached at (919) 467-2566 or info@prestonwoodcc.com for availability and planning.

Prestonwood also operates 15 tennis courts and three golf courses, the Highlands, the Meadows, and the Fairways, on the same property as its wedding spaces. Those grounds stay part of the campus a couple sees on a site visit, even though the wedding itself is confined to the clubhouse's two event rooms.
