Sympathy flowers in Durham NC, sent from wherever you are

You can order sympathy flowers in Durham NC or Chapel Hill from any state, on your phone, tonight. Put the funeral home's full name and address in the recipient details, write the name of the person who died and the service date in the delivery instructions, and aim for the arrangement to arrive the day before the service or the morning of it. Delivery is priced by where the flowers are going. Enter your ZIP for the current delivery charge. Each arrangement is made in our studio in Northwest Raleigh and driven to Durham or Chapel Hill by one of our own drivers. Before it leaves, the designer photographs the finished piece and sends you the picture. You will not be in the room, so you see it first.

Gina Centurione Sinha sent hers from out of state. Her review begins, "I live in Maryland and wanted to send flowers to a dear friend’s fathers funeral." A little further on she wrote, "I cannot express to you how lovely the arrangement was."

The funeral home reads your order before anyone reads your card

A funeral home with several viewing rooms can be receiving flowers for more than one family on the same afternoon, and the staff place each arrangement by matching it to a name. So when you send flowers to a funeral home, put your care into the delivery instructions. Give the deceased's full name and the family's last name, because the two are sometimes different. Add the date of the viewing or the service if you know it. Those details go on our delivery paperwork, and we coordinate with the funeral directors at each of the homes below.

Copy the location from the obituary word for word. Some homes have more than one building. Clements has its main chapel on Broad Street in Durham and a second location in Hillsborough, and we deliver to both, so the order needs to say which.

We do not offer exact delivery times. If you have a time preference, call us or add it under “Delivery instructions” when you order. We will do our best to accommodate it, though it is a request and never a promise. If the service has a set start time, put it on the order and we coordinate around it. A standing spray for the easel beside the casket should be in place before the first visitor arrives.

Arrangements come in up to three sizes, Standard, Deluxe and Premium. Compare the size options on the product page with the spot where the piece will sit, an easel by the casket or a side table in the viewing room. For a sympathy tribute we almost always point people to Deluxe or Premium.

The card holds up to 300 characters and prints your words, nothing else. Sign it with the name the family knows you by. When a grieving household sorts through a room of arrangements afterward, "the Chicago cousins" or "everyone from Dad's old office" tells them far more than a surname they have to puzzle out. The order confirmation, pricing included, goes only to you.

Four Durham and Chapel Hill funeral homes our drivers know

Hall-Wynne Funeral Service sits on West Main Street in downtown Durham, a few blocks from the courthouse. It has served the city since 1904, and the brick building on the 1100 block went up in 1926, built from the ground up as a funeral home. We deliver there several times a week.

Clements Funeral & Cremation Services is on Broad Street, opened in 1957 and now three generations into family ownership. Clements also records services on video, so people who cannot attend in person can still take part. If that will be you, watching from another time zone, the arrangement you sent is there with the family.

Peaks & Waters Memorial Funeral Care is on North Roxboro Street, about four miles north of downtown, on the North Durham route our drivers take up I-85. It is a multidenominational home that serves Christian, Muslim, Hindu and nonreligious families, and each tradition keeps its own pace. In some, the viewing lasts only a few hours. If you are sending into a tradition that is not your own, name it in the special instructions box, along with a color that meant something to the person. We will ask which colors feel right to the family, and how much presence they want the piece to have in the room.

In Chapel Hill, Walker's Funeral Home is on US Highway 15-501 North, a few minutes north of downtown. The business was founded in 1922, and the Chapel Hill location opened in 1937, first on West Franklin Street within walking distance of the university. The staff coordinate with us on where to set arrangements and when the family is arriving for the viewing. Walker's has served the university's people for generations, faculty and staff among them, and students from decades back who stayed or came back. If you studied or worked there and have since moved away, you can order from wherever you are now.

Order as soon as you know the date

Services are usually held between two and seven days after a death, though it varies widely by tradition, and most funeral flowers in Durham NC arrive for the viewing, because that is when people are in the room. For anything large, like a standing spray, order the day you learn the date. Those pieces are built ahead of time, with the date in hand. Casket pieces are usually the immediate family's to order. If you are unsure, ask them first.

We do not deliver on Sundays. For a Monday service, the day-before delivery falls on Saturday, so order before the weekend, or put the service time on the order for Monday morning.

Last-minute funeral flowers are for the morning the news reaches you late and the service is close. You want something in that room with your name on it. A vase arrangement sized for a side table fits that moment, and the family can take it home afterward. The ZIP check on the order page tells you if today is still possible. If it is not, flowers that come a few days after the service still land well, which brings up the other address.

Sometimes the better address is the family's front door

The funeral home is full for a day or two, and then the visitors go home. The house is where the family lives through the quiet weeks that follow, and flowers that arrive then show up when the crowds have gone. Anytime within the first week or two after the funeral works. Our guide to sending sympathy flowers covers which pieces belong at the service and which belong on a kitchen table. For the house, we lean toward something intimate in a vase they can keep, in cream and soft green, or in the colors the person loved.

When the driver is on the way, the recipient gets a text. At a Durham house, if nobody answers the door, the arrangement goes to a covered porch or a neighbor, never into direct sun, with a note or a text saying where. You get an email when the order is placed, another when it is out for delivery and a third when it has been delivered, and you already have the photo from the studio. If you are sitting in an airport or at a desk in another city, that picture and those emails are about as close as you can get to handing it over yourself.

Keep the funeral home's name or the family's address close and choose from our sympathy and funeral collection. Our Durham home deliveries run from Trinity Park near Duke all the way down to Hope Valley.
