If you are about to propose, order a bouquet made to be held and send it to yourself. Put your own name and number on the order, have it delivered on the day, and carry it when you ask. The designer photographs every arrangement and sends you the picture before it leaves the studio. That picture is when you stop worrying about the flowers and go back to worrying about the ring.
If a friend or a sibling just got engaged, send flowers. The best flowers to send for engagement news are a hand-delivered arrangement at the couple's home in warm, celebratory color, with a short card and maybe a box of macarons. Either way, order a day or two ahead. We do not deliver on Sundays, so a weekend proposal means a Saturday delivery. The charge depends on where the flowers are going, so check it for the couple's address or your own. Enter your ZIP for the current delivery charge.
If you are the one asking, send the flowers to yourself
The snag comes from something kind. Our FAQ puts it plainly: "We always try calling or texting the recipient first to let them know we're arriving." On a birthday that text is half the fun. On a proposal, with your partner's name and number on the order and one front door between you, it is your partner's phone that lights up. So put yourself down as the recipient, with your own number. The flowers can also wait at your office. Mark it as a commercial address at checkout and add the suite or floor, and the front desk, or your own desk, does the hiding.
We do not offer exact delivery times, because our drivers cover a full delivery route each day. Plan the question for the evening, which gives the route the whole day to reach you. A breakfast proposal means a delivery the day before. You get an email when the order is out for delivery and another when it has been delivered, so you will know the moment it has arrived.
For the proposal you can order a bouquet made to be held. Ask for a hand-held bouquet in the checkout note, along with your partner's favorite colors, and it comes to you. Pick a size you can hold comfortably in one arm while the other hand is busy. On our Designer's Choice page you choose the size, from Classic at the smaller end up to Grand, and the studio designs from what came in that day. For the plain romantic signal, our color guide calls red "the most direct color in the floral vocabulary." Someone who has always worn soft pink and cream should get soft pink and cream, so say so. And since the flowers are coming to you, you may want no card in them at all. The FAQ covers that as well: "If you'd like us to include no card whatsoever, note that in the delivery instructions."
Flowers for the couple, the day after the news
The ring photo shows up in the group chat, and the next thought is flowers. Send them. A delivery to the couple's home within a day or two of the news is the easiest way to tell them you are happy for them. Put one of their names on the order, with a phone number, and address the card to both. A congratulations arrangement can be generous with color. The color guide describes orange as "Great for celebrations, congratulations," and gives deeper pink tones "a joyful energy that feels celebratory." White, which it ties to new beginnings, suits a couple who likes things calm and pale. For color, warm and bright says you are thrilled for them.
Think about where the arrangement will sit. A newly engaged couple has a kitchen counter and a phone full of messages, and a middle size that fits on that counter gets looked at every morning. Save the largest sizes for a parent or a best friend who wants to make a scene of it.
Then there is the chance nobody is home. They are newly engaged; they may well be out showing the ring to a grandmother. When nobody answers, the driver looks for a covered porch, a lobby, a neighbor or a front desk, never direct sun, and leaves a note or sends a text so the couple knows where to look.
If the couple likes sweets, our gifts page lists Artisan Macarons, "Classic French confections from a local artisan baker. Colors and flavors vary daily." You add them at checkout, and they come with the arrangement in the same delivery. If you are invited to an engagement party, the same order makes a good guest gift. Have it delivered to the hosts the day before, and it is already out when the first guests walk in. Julia B., who had been sent an arrangement by a friend, ordered one of her own and wrote on our reviews page: "...for an engagement party I was attending. Both of the arrangements are so meticulously crafted."
What to write on the card
The card holds up to 300 characters. Two or three short sentences fit with room to spare, and short reads better. A friend might write, "To the two of you: we could not be happier. Tell us the date and we will be there." A parent might go with "We always hoped you would find each other. Welcome to the family, officially." Sign it clearly; the couple has enough to work out already.
If you do put a card in the proposal bouquet, write it for later. People keep those, so one line in your own words is enough.
What comes after yes
The wedding florist question turns up fast once planning starts. A year or more ahead is ideal, and six months is very workable, as our weddings page says. If you are the one who just said yes, that is your next conversation, and you can request a consultation on our Weddings and Events page.
For the proposal, start with the Love and Romance collection. For a congratulations delivery, pick a size on Designer's Choice and add macarons from our gifts page at checkout.
