Four hundred acres of working farmland in the small town of Broadway, North Carolina, tobacco and soybeans shifting with the seasons in fields that stretch toward the tree line, and rising from that landscape, a building that has no business being this beautiful in a place this quiet. The Harrington is a custom-built venue where southern charm meets modern luxury, and the phrase is not a tagline but a description of what happens when you step through the doors and find yourself standing in a grand two-story space illuminated by three chandeliers, finished in neutral tones that glow with the light pouring through the large fold-open doors, and oriented toward views of the lush grounds and the eleven-acre pond that sits just across from the main hall like a mirror held up to the sky. This is not a converted barn or a repurposed warehouse. This is a building that was designed from its foundation to hold celebrations, and every proportion, every surface, every sightline reflects that singular purpose.

The farm that surrounds it is genuine, the kind of acreage where crops grow in rotation and the land is worked, not merely maintained for photographs, and the juxtaposition of that agricultural honesty with the venue’s refined interior is what gives The Harrington its particular character. There is nothing ironic about the elegance here. It belongs to this place because the people who built it understood that luxury and countryside are not contradictions, they are complements, and a wedding that unfolds between the chandelier-lit hall and the waterfront dock at golden hour proves the point more eloquently than any brochure could.

The Grand Hall

Six thousand square feet of open, soaring interior space, a two-story volume that gives the room the scale of a ballroom and the warmth of something far more personal. The neutral palette of the walls and finishes serves as a canvas that adapts to every couple’s vision, and the three chandeliers overhead provide the kind of light that makes faces and flowers and fabric all look their best without trying. Large fold-open doors along one wall dissolve the boundary between the interior and the grounds, allowing the evening breeze and the view of the fields to become part of the celebration rather than something glimpsed through glass.

The main level provides the dining and dancing area, the large kitchen and prep room that catering teams need to execute a flawless evening, and four bathrooms for guest comfort. Upstairs, the bridal suite and groom’s suite give both parties private, dedicated spaces to prepare for the ceremony: rooms designed with the understanding that the morning of a wedding is as important as the evening, and the place where it begins should feel worthy of the occasion.

The Grounds

The property beyond the grand hall is where The Harrington reveals its full depth as a setting for celebration and portraiture. The eleven-acre pond, complete with a dock, offers the kind of waterfront ceremony site that most venues in the region simply cannot provide: the couple framed by water and sky, the fields and the farm stretching behind the guests, the late-afternoon light reflecting off the surface in the way that photographers build entire timelines around. It is a setting that requires no additional decoration to be extraordinary, though a simple floral arch at the end of the dock transforms it into something lasting.

Just to the left of the main venue, a covered outdoor pavilion decorated with lights creates an intimate, romantic space for cocktail hours, secondary celebrations, or the quieter moments that happen at the edges of every great party. The working farm itself, the fields, the open sky, the rural quiet, gives guests the feeling of having traveled somewhere remote and private, even though Broadway sits within comfortable driving distance of the Triangle, Fayetteville, and the Sandhills.

From a Florist’s Perspective

The Harrington’s neutral interior and modern proportions make it one of the most versatile canvases a florist could ask for, a space where every color reads with clarity and every arrangement stands on its own merits without competing with the architecture. The three chandeliers set a warm, ambient tone that rewards rich palettes and soft metallics equally, and the fold-open doors mean that the floral design must work both as an interior installation and as a complement to the green and gold of the farmland visible through the opening.

Tall centerpieces and elevated designs use the two-story ceiling height to dramatic effect, while low and lush tablescapes on the dining tables create intimacy at the conversational level. For waterfront ceremonies at the pond dock, restraint is the florist’s greatest tool, a garland-wrapped arch, ground-based arrangements, or a simple cluster of seasonal blooms at the end of the dock let the water and the landscape do the work. Garden roses, dahlias, ranunculus, pampas grass, eucalyptus, and trailing greenery in clean vessels, brass, glass, ceramic, or matte white, complement the venue’s balance of modern luxury and pastoral setting. The Harrington is a venue that invites the florist to think about light and proportion first, and the flowers will follow.
