Some venues are built by developers. Carlee Farm was built by a family that sold their house, moved to the country, and discovered — after their daughter’s wedding beneath the trees — that the barn her father had built with his own hands was the kind of place other people wanted to celebrate in too. The farm sits on Carlee Farm Road in Oxford, North Carolina, in the rolling hills of Granville County where the Piedmont softens into open pasture and the pace of the world slows to something a wedding day deserves. Named after the rescue dog who came with them from their old life into this new one, the property carries a sweetness in its origin story that shows up in every detail of the experience — from the donkeys and goats who greet guests along the fence line to the Day of Coordinator who comes included with every booking because the owners believe no couple should have to manage logistics on the day they get married.

Oxford is not the first town most Triangle couples consider when they imagine their wedding, and that is precisely the point. Carlee Farm is a short drive north of Wake Forest, Raleigh, and Durham — close enough that no guest complains about the distance, far enough that the landscape changes entirely by the time the farm road opens onto the property. The barn rises from the countryside with the quiet authority of a structure that was built to last, and the grounds surrounding it — a secluded ceremony site framed by trees, a pond catching the late-afternoon light, rolling pasture that stretches in every direction — deliver the kind of seclusion that makes a celebration feel like a world unto itself.

The Barn

The heart of Carlee Farm is its spacious barn — a structure with genuine wood walls, soaring proportions, and the warmth of a building that was handmade rather than manufactured. String lights cascade from the ceiling. Sheer draping softens the architecture without hiding it. The room accommodates up to one hundred fifty guests for a seated reception with room to dance, and the atmosphere it creates is the rare combination of rustic and refined that every barn venue aspires to but few achieve. Ten custom farm tables and two hundred Chiavari chairs are included with the rental, along with a generous collection of up-to-date décor pieces that allow couples to style the space without renting everything from scratch.

The barn works for both ceremony and reception, providing the weather-proof flexibility that outdoor-only venues cannot guarantee, and the transition between the two happens with the ease of a space designed by people who have watched hundreds of celebrations unfold within its walls and know exactly where the bottlenecks live and how to eliminate them.

The Grounds

The outdoor ceremony site at Carlee Farm is tucked into a secluded grove — a natural setting framed by mature trees and oriented to catch the light the way a photographer would choose if photographers were allowed to redesign the landscape. Two hundred white wooden chairs are provided for ceremony seating, and the pergola at the head of the aisle gives the couple a frame for their vows that feels as permanent as the trees behind it. The procession from the grove to the barn is a walk through the property that allows guests to take in the farm’s full character — the animals in the pasture, the pond reflecting the sky, the rolling hills of Granville County spreading in every direction.

Changing areas for both wedding parties are included, giving the morning of the wedding the privacy and comfort it needs. Parking attendants direct traffic and ensure that arrival feels orderly rather than chaotic — a small detail that contributes more to a guest’s first impression than most couples realize. And the petting animals — donkeys and goats who have become as much a part of Carlee Farm’s identity as the barn itself — offer guests the kind of spontaneous, delightful moment that no wedding planner can manufacture and no guest ever forgets.

From a Florist’s Perspective

Carlee Farm’s warm wood barn and pastoral setting call for floral work that honors the venue’s handmade character — arrangements with richness and texture that feel generous without pretension, compositions that belong to the countryside as naturally as the Chiavari chairs belong to the farm tables beneath the string lights. The barn’s wood interior glows under warm lighting, and palettes of ivory, blush, burgundy, sage, dusty blue, champagne, terracotta, and deep green photograph with particular beauty against the grain of the walls and the shimmer of the draping overhead.

For the outdoor ceremony, the grove provides the canopy — floral work should dress the pergola and line the aisle without competing with the trees. A garland-wrapped arbor with seasonal blooms, ground-based arrangements in natural vessels, or simple greenery winding through the ceremony chairs complement the setting without overdesigning it. Garden roses, dahlias, ranunculus, stock, eucalyptus, and lush trailing greenery in mixed vessels — ceramic, aged wood, galvanized metal, amber glass — suit the farm’s balance of rustic warmth and thoughtful style. Carlee Farm is a venue where the flowers should feel as if they belong to the property, and the florist who achieves that will create an evening that photographs as beautifully as it feels.
